Internship Opportunities (2010 Season) - York Revolution (York, PA)

I. Who we are:

The York Revolution is owned and operated by Opening Day Partners, LLC (ODP). ODP has owned and operated many successful minor league baseball clubs over the past 20+ years including the Hagerstown Suns, Bowie Baysox, Frederick Keys and Delmarva Shorebirds.  The York Revolution plays at brand new Sovereign Bank Stadium, and is one of the best supported independent minor league teams in the country (averaging over 4,000 fans per game in 2009).

In addition to the York Revolution, ODP currently owns and operates highly successful minor league teams in Lancaster, PA (Lancaster Barnstormers), Waldorf, MD (Southern Maryland BlueCrabs) and Camden, NJ (Camden Riversharks). The Lancaster Barnstormers are one of the most successful teams in independent baseball, drawing an average attendance of over 4,700 fans per game for a total attendance of over 300,000 fans in 2009.  Both Camden and Southern Maryland drew well over 200,000 fans in 2009.

ODP strives to provide communities with affordable family entertainment, not just during the baseball season, but all year round. The new Sovereign Bank Stadium Complex is a multi-purpose entertainment complex that is open year-round for events such as concerts, trade shows, holiday parties, non-profit fundraisers, youth athletic league championships, and much more!

ODP is highly respected throughout the professional sports landscape, known to operate with the utmost professionalism, yet still provide a fun work atmosphere. We have a strong track record of promoting from within and many of the key front office and management positions in our organization are held by individuals who started as an intern or entry-level employee.

We are in search of highly competitive, highly motivated individuals who have a clear commitment to a career in sports and entertainment venue marketing and management.

II. The Full-Time Paid Internship Program:

The Full-Time Paid Internship programs offered by the York Revolution and ODP are some of the most exceptional and beneficial throughout all of professional sports, providing recent graduates with an overall learning experience that provides a solid foundation for understanding the business side of professional sports and entertainment. The York Revolution internship program will follow in that fine tradition.

York Revolution interns will have the unique opportunity to work in a new facility and see firsthand the building of a successful sports franchise.  Each intern will have a specific area of focus, as detailed below, and will be a part of the Revolution sales and marketing effort to promote the 2010 season.

In addition to gaining valuable experience on the business side, York Revolution interns will have the opportunity to gain experience on the events side of the operation. By working home games during the 2010 season, interns will have the opportunity to interact with fans and to apply what they have learned in office to actual game day situations. There will be a heavy emphasis on customer service and providing a safe, fun, affordable and overall enjoyable experience for all fans.

Although every Revolution intern can count on getting a well-rounded experience, each intern will be assigned to a specific area of the operation as their primary focus. The potential areas of concentration are:

• Group Ticket Sales
• Box Office Operations
• Marketing/Corporate Partnerships
• Stadium Operations

Additional information on specific duties and responsibilities of each of these areas can be found in section V.

The full-time paid internship program runs from approximately January 4, 2010 – September 20, 2010 of each year. For the 2010 season, some internships may start later than the January 4, 2010 start date.

Participants in the York Revolution full-time paid internship program will be thoroughly trained and given the experience and the opportunity to grow within the ODP baseball family. The goal of the full-time paid internship program is to fully prepare the intern for a full-time salaried role within the company. Only recent college graduates are eligible for full-time paid internships. College undergraduates are eligible for non-paid full-time internships for college credit only.

III. Application and Interview Process:

In order to be considered for an internship position it is required that each candidate submits a resume and cover letter indicating their intent, specific area(s) of interest and available start date.

Candidates may also apply through the web site TeamworkOnline.com, by searching for positions under the York Revolution.

Once an application for an internship position is received, it will be reviewed and we will interview candidates whose credentials, experience, and interests are most equivalent to the available internship positions. All other candidates will be encouraged to re-submit an application the following year for reconsideration.

Once chosen, we will conduct a series of interviews consisting of the following:

All candidates will be responsible for their own travel expenses to and from York, PA for any in-person interviews. The program or department director will contact candidates to schedule in-person interviews.

IV. Internship Details:

Attendance Policy

The York Revolution will strictly enforce an attendance policy for all interns. Full-time paid interns will be expected to work all games (with some exceptions) and hold the same office hours and overall time commitment as full-time salaried employees. In the event the intern shows disregard for this policy, the Revolution reserve the right to terminate the intern’s employment at any time.

Compensation

Full-time paid interns will be compensated by a monthly stipend (TBD – dependent on department and duties) as well as sales commission, if applicable. This monthly stipend will range between $500 and $900 per month, depending on the area of responsibility. Only recent college graduates will be eligible for full time internships. Current college undergraduates will be eligible for unpaid internships for college credit.

Housing

The York Revolution do not provide housing, though we will assist in any way possible an intern in need of a place to live and/or roommates.

Meals

On game days, The York Revolution will provide (1) meal to interns who are here working the entire business day and are staying on through the game.

Evaluations

Once a month interns will have one on one time with the heads of the department they have been working in to assess their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, more periodic informal evaluations will be made throughout the course of the internship with the Program Director.

In order to help maintain a quality internship program, we have a formal exit interview and evaluation process as well. Through this process, we can gain valuable feedback that can be incorporated into future program planning. At the conclusion of an internship, every intern will be expected to participate in the formal exit interview process. The exit interview will consist of an open discussion as well a written evaluation.
